Anne-Marie sets out Conservative agenda for Sure Start centres

Anne-Marie Trevelyan has visited the Seahouses Sure Start Children’s Centre to find out, first hand, about the work they do to support young families. Anne-Marie met with parents and staff using the Centre and listened to their experiences of Sure Start.

Carolynn Reavley, midwife at the Seahouses Sure Start Children’s Centre, said “Here at the Seahouses Children’s Centre we offer families with children under five a friendly place to get information and support on parenting and childcare, as well as on health and work related issues. We also offer outreach and home visiting services, which increases the number of families we can actively support.”

At the Centre we respect the unique work of the family. We recognise that all children are different and that one size does not fit all. We are always listening to families so we can provide the most appropriate service or support for them.”

Anne-Marie said, “I am deeply impressed by the work of Children Centre staff here in Seahouses and across North Northumberland. I have long believed that Sure Start centres play a vital role in supporting parents and their young children. I would like to see the professionals who run these centres given even greater freedom and support to work with other local groups who support families and children.”

Anne-Marie continued, “A new Conservative Government will put in place a new generation of Sure Start Centres. These centres will focus on the neediest, most disadvantaged families. Conservatives will free Sure Start from local Government control and fund centres directly, allowing them to work more effectively with the local organisations helping our neediest families. Conservatives will also fund 4,200 new Health Visitors for Sure Start teams. This will allow them to engage earlier and more regularly with the young families most in need of support and guidance.”

Readers may contact Carolynn on 07876501439 to find out more about the services provided at the Sure Start Children’s Centre in Seahouses.
